Scuba diving in Ocho Rios
Possibly the only time we think about learning a new sport is when we are on vacation. So you may want to consider Scuba diving in Ocho Rios and Runaway Bay.
Many hotels have Padi instructors, which for those of us who don’t know is the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, so we know we are in expert hands.
There are many places to dive around Jamaica, but some of the best places are close to Ocho Rios and Runaway Bay, yes just a few miles or kilometers out to sea.
There are dive sites with such names as Sandals Reef, obviously close to the famous Sandals Ochi Resort. These dives are close to shore where a novice diver will see sponges, sea ferns and coral fish. More advanced divers may catch sight of the Green Moray Eel and Eagle Ray.
There is also a reef not too far from Dunn’s River Falls, where Barrel Sponges can be found.
The visitor should know about Scuba diving opportunities at Sandals Ochie, where the novice can enroll in the PADI Resort Certification Program. There are also opportunities for the expert diver. You can check here for more information: http://www.sandals.com/scuba/
Scuba diving in Ocho Rios and Runaway Bay clipped this information directly from the RIU Club Ocho Rios website, which is another of our beautiful hotels (http://www.riu.com/en/Paises/jamaica/ocho-rios/clubhotel-riu-ocho-rios/) website about Diving:
“Caverns: Numerous tunnels with a host of sharks and turtles. Another highlight is the wreckage of a minesweeper overrun by coral and tropical fish.
Devil’s Reef: There is a spectacular vertical wall standing over 60 m high here, very rich in marine fauna.
Runaway Bay: Highlights are Ricky’s Reefs, with numerous sponges, and the remains of a 30-metre tug, the Reggae Queen, containing abundant biodiversity.”
