Dolphin Cove – Ocho Rios
Here Ocho Rios Travel takes a look at one of the most visited attractions in Jamaica, close to Dunn’s River Falls. Dolphin Cove – Ocho Rios is the only place in the world that you can watch dolphin show in the sea. You can also swim and interact with these intelligent mammals and for the braver you can get to swim alongside a stingray.
Dolphins, Stingrays and Sharks
Dolphin Cove Ocho Rios was opened in 2011 by Marilyn Burrowes and her husband. Not only is it a fun place to visit it is somewhere you can get to learn about the evolution of the Caribbean sharks. Also, on staff are people who are highly trained in animal care, environmentalists and specialists in marine mammal veterinarians.
In the same location you will also find Treasure Reef, which is a mini replica of Port Royal and includes a village where you will find pirates, oh yes and you can hold stingrays (barbs removed, of course).
There are several types of tours to choose from. Possibly the most popular with families is the Dolphin Encounter. After being told some neat facts about the dolphins, you will have a close up encounter where you will be allowed to touch the dolphin while standing knee-deep in water beside them. You may even receive a dolphin kiss.
There is also the Dolphin Royal Swim where after a brief presentation you get right in contact with two dolphins who will pull or push you through the warm sea of the Caribbean.
Dolphin Cove – Ocho Rios also offers nature trails where you will find exotic birds, snakes and iguanas.
And if all this is not enough take a trip in a glass bottom boat, have your hair braided or sit and sip a delicious Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee at the Star Buccaneer’s Coffee Shop.
